There is tremendous potential with the Mobile Port. The new container facility now has 4 times the capacity that its former facility had. There are plans to enlarge the turning basin at the port. This will allow much larger ships to enter the docks.
Once the ThyssenKrupp steel plant is operational, it is anticipated that the port will be busy with transfer of raw materials and exporting finished products.
The State of Alabama plans on expanding the port because of its importance to the overall state's economy.
