Forbes: Mobile Among Best Cities for Recession Recovery

Mobile has been a popular subject for Forbes magazine. Over the last two years, the magazine has touted Mobile as one of the best bounce back areas of the country and as one of the top cities in the country for economic growth over the next five years. Well in a June 9th article, Forbes has named Mobile among its best cities in America for recession recovery. Here is link to the article - Forbes article on Mobile, AL.

According to the article, the Mobile region "has seen job growth in mining, natural resources, transportation and utilities. With unemployment above 8%, the recession can be felt, but that didn't stop Mobile from making Forbes' list of the best medium-sized cities for jobs."

Most of the potential lies in the Thyssen Krupp plant, the aerospace related jobs at Brookley Field, and shipping related business along the Mobile riverfront.

The mayor of Mobile is currently in France at the Paris Air Show. He has scheduled meetings with EADS, Northrop Grumman, with three of their suppliers that the Mobile area is trying to court to come to Mobile and bring additional jobs to Mobile.

The current unemployment rate in Mobile is 8.5 %, but there are signs that Mobile is poised to recover from the recession faster than other areas of the country and Forbes evidently agrees.
