How Is Christmas Celebrated In Argentina - Spanish Grammar Lesson

Today I will give you a Spanish grammar lesson and share with you how Christmas is celebrated in Argentina, South America. To do this, we will use the "Impersonal SE" which allows us to speak of what all people do, without identifying a particular person. Often this is used when we want to ask or indicate if something is allowed or possible to do, in general, in one place.

For example:

En una biblioteca: "Se puede leer", "No se puede hablar fuerte", "¿Se puede comer?" (In a library: "You can read", "You can't talk loud," Can I eat? ")

En el cine: "Se puede comer pochoclo", "No se puede filmar", "¿Se puede cantar?"( At the movies: "You can eat popcorn," "You can't take video", "Can you sing?")

Además de "Se puede" y "No se puede", como decíamos, se usa para hablar generalizando qué hace la gente. Entonces, vamos a leer un breve texto sobre "Qué hace la gente en Argentina durante las fiestas".

En Argentina durante el mes de diciembre se decoran algunos árboles en calles y parques con adornos navideños. Las mujeres usan ropa interior rosa por tradición la noche antes de Navidad, por lo cual, se vende mucha en las tiendas durante diciembre. El 24 de diciembre se celebra la "Noche Buena" y las familias se reúnen para comer una gran cena antes de las 12 de la noche.

Todos se juntan alrededor de las 9, se come pollo o carnes frescas, y en las familias grandes todos llevan algo para poner en la mesa navideña. Se toma vino y gaseosas, pero cuando llegan las 12 se brinda con sidra o champagne. Se tiran fuegos artificiales, y es este el momento que los padres aprovechan para poner los regalos en el arbolito.

El 31 se hace una cena similar, aunque no todos lo pasan en familia, algunos han optado en los últimos años por pasarlo con amigos. Se tiran más fuegos artificiales que en Navidad y no hay regalos. Es tradición estrenar algo y se hacen diferentes tradiciones, como tirar globos de papel con deseos o comer 12 uvas a las 12 de la noche, pidiendo un deseo por cada mes.
